Unable to create Gallery sub folders to organise photos

Postby limecc » Fri Dec 03, 2010 12:53 am

This is a backward step compared to the old site if permanent.
Is there any means to tag photos for the search engines?

Hi Paul
There is a way to do this but only from the administration level. Trying to understand what needs to be done.

Only spent 20 mins or so comparing (the new website's) Phoca to Coppermine power of the Gallery, and I have to say I think the old site's Coppermine seems to be better. It's still being actively developed so there's more even more functionality available than before and best of all it's FREE! (like Phoca)

The reviews say Phoca is hard to configure. Well done so far J.

I wonder what JoomGallery is like? Maybe best for bulk uploads?

OK Jackie, depending on the amount of maintenance work for yourself or level of features you want to enable for members, you either need to create the subcategories manually and assign ownership to the library owner, or enable the user control panel so members can upload images from there instead of in category view. I'm sure this doesn't give us admins over anyone else, just our own library.

If the latter, I can upload the images and you can then reassign ownership away from me when they are there. I got everyone's images using one of the many offline browsing programs (or could have used Internet Explorer itself).

Tip - Why not create yourself a joe public account that you can use for testing and see what end result you are after? Speaking as a website administrator as part of my work, it's next to impossible to get right first time without testing.

I think it would enhance the Gallery to get the tree view module. Would be much easier for people to browse the subfolders and images.

Also to enable Categories detail so members can describe the category.
