Warranty queries .....

We all have queries regarding where we stand with warranty.  (See below extracts from another website)

The club has it's AGM in April, we will be there to hear what the Committee has found out regarding this.  We need to get together as a group to make sure the owners of Fleetwood caravans are treated fairly.  Let's make sure all concerns are heard by writing to our Chairman and attending the AGM. 
Maybe this calls for a meeting before April - what do others think.................?

Check the warranty details we have a 2006 model with 5 year warranty.  Fleetwood cover the first year and an insurance company cover the remainder - the newer models are all covered by an insurance company I believe.  This may mean that things are still covered if Fleetwood pay for this in advance?  Long shot I know but its just possible.

Been trying to get a job done under warranty on our Fleetwood.  Now the firms in receivership, the dealer says he has no legal obligation to carry out any warranty repairs as he won't be paid for it.  However, out of the goodness of his heart, he said he'll do the job.
Fleetwood only ever gave 12 months parts and labour warranty with their vans, year 2 + 3 was covered by an insurance policy.  Now they've gone bust - our dealer is pretty sure the insurance bill won't have been paid - therefore no cover - therefore no 2nd + 3rd year warranty. 

Total and utter bullsh*t!  It is the dealer's responsiblity.  It makes me extremely mad when I read posts on how the dealer tries to squirm out of their obligations.    Under the Sale of Goods Act the contract is between the dealer and yourself and if the dealer sold you a caravan with a 3 year warranty, the dealer is obliged to honour that warranty.  If you are unsure you are welcome to validate my statement with Consumer Direct or Trading Standards.

Don't let the dealer rip you off!
I'd check with Consumer Direct/Trading Standards as I think that if it is sold with a warranty, irrespective of whether insurance backed or not, it formed part of the original contract, i.e. you might not have bought the caravan had the warranty not been for X number of years.
It really annoys me when the Dealers try to wash their hands of responsibility, it might be worth a phone call.

I would also like to add that if the 'van was bought on any form of credit agreement ie. credit card, hire purchase etc., then you may have a claim against the credit company also.
I am sure that someone will help out with the relevant section of the consumer credit act. (75?)

Surely the consumer still has rights, it's not his problem the manufacturer has gone bust. Does he still have the Sale of goods Act to fall back on as he bought it from a dealership ?

Sorry may not have made it clear.  It is the responsibility of the dealer to ensure that warranty repairs are carried out whether it is for 1 year or 3 years.  Sales of goods Act actually covers you for 6 years excluding fair wear & tear.

Any news on this yet Pete? I would have thought that if what the dealer is telling you is true then the insurance would have been under written by somebody, hopefully this should be amongst all the bumph and paperwork they gave you, you'll have to get your magnifying glass out and do some proof reading.

Hi All
Fairly new to the club having invested in a 2008 van at last years Birminhgam show (ES 640T). Although we love the van we have had nothing but trouble with it - all electrical. Main fuse kept tripping out and after convincing the dealer that we were using all our original electrical gear from our old van, we had it repaired to be told that the 20amp cable had been placed in the 10amp fuse board and visa versa. Now after our last trip out in Dec we have lost all 12 volt supply in the van. Tried all the tips passed to us but now our dealer has gone underground. They promised to call back on three occasions and have not so it's a private repair to be paid for.
We are advised that we can't claim from the insurance warranty because it doesn't activate until May 09, Ce la Vie, it's off to our local repairer dissapointed but still smiling

Just to update you all with our experience.  We took our 2008 Heritage in to our dealer for some warranty work which was arranged after the announcement of Fleetwood being in receivership.

There was an electrical problem, total loss of the 12 volt supply to the van, which they sourced back to the touch pad control panel, the one located below the Aldi heater controller.  They were unable to change the control panel as there were no spares available and they indicated that it was unlikely that any would become available through the receivers.  Fortunately for us they were able to fit an external switch next to the PDU which resolves the issue. On looking at the fix it?s quite simple to replicate, if your planning on doing this yourself let us know and I?ll send you the diagram.

In discussions with the dealer, (Pearman Briggs of Gloucester ? 01452524700) they were quite happy to perform the warranty functions but where specialist parts are required from Fleetwood they will not be in a position to provide them.  Our dealer is aware of their obligations under the sale of goods act which covers the first 12 months.
