Solar conversion

Many folks like to do a bit of DIY on their van, repairs, modifications etc. Why not share with others.

Solar conversion

Postby limecc » Tue Aug 04, 2020 7:58 am

Ok so not done this weekend but over a few weekends last year, managed to convert the old girl to solar. Have 400w of flexible panels on the roof, 240ah of storage and a 2kw inverter. Wired individual panels in series and each pair in parallel to take maximum advantage of the MPPT controller and low light conditions. Have a changeover switch from 'shore' to onboard power. Will upload pics when I've got them transferred to this new phone I have.

Very useful being able to tow with the fridge on 240v! The Audi (Q7) we purchased with factory fit towbar doesn't have all pins connected to power it on 12v.

Yes the BM came with a factory fit tow system which was missing a few pins for the fridge 12v element to work off the car. Turns out that our European partners do not have that facility. Simple fix tho’ as the 13pin socket is not equipped with those pins, just needs a fused (20A) supply and neg connecting to the socket.
